Get Summer Ready

Summer 2016 is already in full swing, and many of you are wondering what more you could do to get your body toned in time for the beach. We put together a list of tips to help you get summer ready, right now.

Get Summer Ready with These Tips From Purlife

Cardio

Stay heart-healthy with plenty of daily cardio. Heart-racing, high-intensity exercises are your bread and butter when it comes to slimming down quick. Keep your heart rate up for the duration of your workout for best results. Try a cardio routine that consists of running, rowing, swimming, cycling or elliptical training, 45 to 60 minutes, 4 to 5 times a week, and you’ll get summer ready in no time.

If you can’t find an hour in a day to devote to training, don’t give up on your fitness goals. A 15 minute “express workout” to get your heart rate up twice or three times throughout the day will give you noticeable results. Get on the state-of-the-art treadmill or stair climber at Purlife Fitness Center and fall in love with cardio.

Strength Training

Rev up your metabolism by lifting heavy weights a couple times a week. After just a few weight lifting sessions, both men and women will notice a significant increase in their metabolism. When combined with a clean diet, routine weight lifting could help you lose weight far more efficiently than cardio alone.

Whether your goal includes weight loss or strength gains, there’s a lifting regimen that will deliver optimal results. As you age, strength training will help fight the natural deterioration of muscle and bone mass that comes with conditions such as osteoporosis and arthritis.

Eat Clean

Think of planning a healthy diet as a few small, manageable steps—like having a salad for lunch every day —rather than one drastic, overwhelming shift. As your slight modifications turn into wholesome habits, you can continue to add more healthy food to your routine.

  • Cook More

  • Cooking at home will allow you to take control of what you eat and monitor what ingredients go into your food.

  • Make Positive Changes

  • When cutting down on poor dietary choices, it’s important to substitute them with the correct alternatives. When you replace dangerous trans fats with healthy fats (such as trading fried chicken for any grilled lean meat), you are making a huge difference in your diet.

  • Simplify

  • Choose your foods based on color, variety, and freshness! Be sure to include a full rainbow in your meals, like oranges, blueberries, yams, bananas, and more. The bright color in certain foods is usually a good indicator of the vitamins and benefits they contain. Don’t forget to read the labels on the processed foods you choose- where manufacturers often hide sugar and carb content.

  • Consume lots of water

  • Water helps rinse our systems of harmful toxins, yet many people go through life dehydrated. Thirst is often mistaken for hunger, so staying hydrated will also help you make better food choices.
