Healthy Living Starts at Home

Many people assume that if they go to the gym, they can do and eat whatever they want during the day. However, this isn’t true. Healthy living involves much more than just working out for an hour a day. You have to be committed to healthy living if you want to make progress. Today we are going to give you some tips and tricks to live a healthy life.

Drink More Water

The first step to a healthy lifestyle and one that is overlooked far too often is drinking water. Your body is mad up of 60% water. Water isn’t just for quenching your thirst, and it also helps your body remove waste, and carry nutrients and oxygen around your body. Since your body is constantly losing water throughout the day, it is imperative to replenish the water in your body. Also, drinking water aids in weight loss. Researchers say that drinking more water causes your stomach to fill which in turn reduces your appetite.
How much water is enough? The amount of water your body needs depends on various factors like your activity level, humidity, and your weight. A good rule of thumb is to drink eight glasses of water every day.

Excercise

As previously mentioned, exercise alone isn’t enough for healthy living. However, it should be a large part of your life. Most of us spend eight hours a day at a desk, and recent studies show just how bad that is for our bodies. A recent study suggests that one hour of exercise per day is enough to offset the detrimental effects that sitting at work has on your body. If you do sit at a desk for a living take a few minutes every hour and walk around. Try walking down the stairs to the lobby and then back up if it is reasonable.
Find a workout that you enjoy. One of the hangups for people that start new workout routines is the fact that it feels more like work than fun. If you find an exercise routine you enjoy doing you’re much more likely to stick to it. Maybe playing a sport is the best workout for you. Try different routines until you find the right one. Healthy living is all about finding a routine that is both convenient and fun so that you don’t give up. Healthy living should be a lifelong process and not a New Year’s resolution fad.
Workout every part of your body, don’t just do cardio every day.

Get Enough Sleep

We know you want to stay awake and watch one more episode of your favorite tv show on Netflix, but don’t fall into that trap. Your body needs sleep to recover and denying your body the rest it needs could have detrimental health effects. Eight hours of sleep is the standard, but everyone’s body is different. You know your body better than anyone else, but you should try to get as much sleep as you can. A lack of sleep has also been associated with increased appetite. When your body doesn’t get the rest it needs, it turns to food for the energy to get through the day. So put down your phone or the remote and go to bed!

Choose Your Food Wisely

Now we aren’t telling you that you can’t have a slice of cake on your birthday, of course, you can. However, you should choose the right foods for your day to day life. Staying away from sugar is a good place to start. Sugar not only doesn’t fill you up, but it can also trigger your body to want more food because of the sugar rush you will receive. Find healthy snacks for between meals that aren’t full of sugar, and you will be much better off. Also, you should avoid artificial sweeteners, while they don’t contain the calories that regular sugar has, they have the same effect on the brain.
Another good way to improve your diet is preparing your meals. Cooking your meals ahead of time cuts down on the chances of making a bad decision when it comes time to eat. Preparing your food for the week and putting it in containers could save you a lot of time, money, and make healthy living much easier. This will also help you stay away from processed foods.
