Get Summer Ready

Here in South Florida, we’re already feeling the heat. Temperatures this week soared up through the low 90’s, but as the season progresses, it’s only getting hotter. With the official start of summer only a month away, Purlife Fitness Classes are filling up as local fitness fans dash to get their workouts in. This year, summer solstice lands on June 20. That means you have just enough time to whip your body into shape and get summer ready before you hit the beach.

Get Summer Ready In 28 Days

Diet is key when it comes to fitness plans- follow the 80/20 rule (80% diet, 20% exercise). But don’t be scared off by the word “diet” – your diet should be full of your favorite healthy and nutritious foods. This summer, check out your neighborhood markets for locally caught white fish such as mahi-mahi or grouper. Fresh fish is an excellent source of lean protein. Snack smart with complex carbs such as sweet potatoes, oatmeal, and brown rice. Melons are the perfect summer food! Stay refreshed and satisfied by filling up on watermelon, cantaloupe, and honeydew.

Pool and ocean exercises are amazing because water provides natural resistance, much like weight lifting. Try running in place underwater, racing a friend from one end of the pool to the other, and as always, stretch before you begin any workout.

Stay Cool in The Florida Heat

The last thing you want to do is ruin your mission to get summer ready by hurting yourself! Exercising in the heat can be dangerous if you aren’t aware of the risks. The most important thing is to stay hydrated for the duration of your workout. Heat exhaustion is a direct result of working out too hard for too long in extreme temperatures. If you start feeling dizzy, nauseous, or weak during your workout, stop immediately. Heat stroke is the most serious form of heat injury and may result in a trip to the emergency room, so be extra careful this summer.

Stay focused, and above all, enjoy yourself. When it comes to achieving your fitness goals, the journey is half the fun. To take it to the next level, reach out to one of our personal trainers today.
